Work

Patrick McConlogue studies certified retrieval over long memory banks: one S4/HiPPO spine, TurboQuant-packed states, and abstention when the bank does not contain the answer. The architecture is a retrieval substrate with recomputation-checkable certificates, not a larger attention window.

Measured on a sealed 50,811-entry synthetic corpus: needle retrieval 1.000 at 30M tokens against RAG families at 0.000–0.003; certified-negative abstention 1.000; joint success 0.940 versus 0.102. Storage at 30M tokens is 7.5 MB (4-bit HiPPO) versus 4.42 TB BF16 KV on a Qwen3-8B config (36 layers, 8 KV heads, head_dim 128).
